Wyoming Alters Wolf Quotas

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is increasing quotas and redrawing wolf hunt area boundaries because wolves are pushing elk off quality habitat areas in the Gros Ventre region of western Wyoming. The move is expected to reduce but not eliminate wolf packs.

“I don’t think so, not with the pack sizes we have in the Gros Ventre,” Ken Mills, WGFD wolf biologist, told the Jackson Hole News & Guide. “One pack might be reduced significantly, but then the other packs around are going to have a much lighter take.”

WGFD recently increased the 2018 wolf quota to 58.
