Sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time. That’s exactly what happened to Tyson Heibert. And because of that and a keen eye with his bow, he now holds  the new state record for a nontypical elk.

“Somehow, luckily, he ran right in front of me,” Heibert told The Oklahoman. “I just drew my bow and let her fly… I had no idea what I had when I shot him.”

What he ended up with is a 9 x 9 elk that measures 356 7/8 inches. He shot it on his family’s land near Camargo in northwest Oklahoma.
