Vail, Colorado, is a hotspot for skiers and travelers. Same goes for elk. Or at least, it used to be.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife recently hosted a seminar to talk about declining elk numbers in the area, specifically in the Eagle River and Roaring Fork River drainages.

According to Vail Daily, wildlife officials counted 3,500 elk near Vail in 2002 but only 1,200 in 2016. And that’s even though the number of hunting licenses was greatly reduced.
