Elk NetworkWarning Issued about Aggressive Elk

General | September 11, 2019

The rut marks the most magical time of the year to view elk and elk behavior. However, for those not familiar with elk, it can often be dangerous. That’s why Yellowstone National Park again issued safety guidelines for tourists not so familiar with such behavior.

Among the suggestions is to remain at least 25 yards away from elk (although allowing much more space would be even better and safer).  Other suggestions include seeking shelter in a building, vehicle or behind a tall, sturdy barrier if an elk charges.

There are multiple incidents each year involving people who get too close to elk, bison, bears or other wild animals. Some of them suffered severe injuries.
