The camera operator followed the action as it happened. The placekicker launched the kickoff deep into the Washington night during the Coupeville High School-Kings High School game. The football bounced off the hands of Sean Toomey-Stout, the return man, and went over his head. He quickly recovered, scooped it up and tried to loop around to make up the lost yardage.

At that point, with the crowd cheering in delight and the play continuing, the camera panned forward to around midfield where it caught a burst of speed sprinting toward the goal line. It was a deer! The four-legged creature never broke stride until it made its way through the end zone and back into the dark of the night.

Moments later, Stout followed. He successfully avoided defenders and made it into the end zone himself for a touchdown.

Stout’s mother put it this way on her Facebook page:  “Sean’s 95-yard touchdown with a deer blocking for him.”

The game took place at Coupeville High School on Whidbey Island, Washington.
