Elk NetworkSouth Dakota: No Plans to Establish Wolves

General | March 24, 2018

South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) recently issued a news release reminding citizens within the state that gray wolves remain under the umbrella of the Endangered Species Act. Federal protections for the animals have been in place since 2014.

GFP also maintains that it does not have any plans to facilitate the establishment of gray wolves in South Dakota.

The agency encouraged sportsmen and women to clearly identify their target when hunting coyotes. If a wolf is inadvertently trapped, trappers are asked to immediately contact GFP. Livestock producers that suspect wolves near their operations should also contact GFP.
