A young hunter from South Dakota didn’t go far to harvest what is the largest bighorn ram ever taken. With a final score of 209 1/8″, it measures 10 inches larger than the previous record.

“I went into this hunt knowing that there were some spectacular animals in the area, but it was beyond my wildest dream that I would be after the new Pope and Young Club World Record!” said Clayton Miller. “Thank you to everyone that helped along the way, mostly to my wife Becca for taking care of the family while I made dozens of scouting trips. What an honor and a privilege it was for me to be able to watch these incredible animals all year long a short road trip from my backyard!”

Miller arrowed the ram in Pennington County which is located in the western portion of South Dakota.

In September 2018, a college student in Montana tied the largest ram ever taken with a rifle after taking an animal that measured 208 3/8 (Boone and Crockett scoring) in the Missouri Breaks.
