Montana researcher Craig Jourdonnais of the MPG Ranch told KPAX he has found some interesting information pertaining to spring elk behavior. After 30 years of studying elk, Craig believes he has observed behavior of elk participating in “sparring” matches throughout the spring to prepare themselves for the fall rut.

In an area that Craig deemed the “Octagon,” he observed 25 different bulls displaying the behavior of false charging each other in what he believes is an attempt to perfect approach, stance, and other behavior necessary to fight during the rut.

What do you think? Are they becoming a better rut “Warrior?”
