Elk NetworkFriday the 13th a ‘Lucky Day’ for Michigan Elk Hunter

If you’re superstitious, Friday the 13th may be a day to pull the covers up over your head and just stay in bed all day. Not so if you are Greg Burks.

“Friday the 13th is now my lucky day,” said Burks.

The hunter from White Lake, Michigan, harvested a 6×6 bull elk on Friday, September 13, 2019, as a successful Pure Hunt Michigan winner. The program draws three lucky winners each year and allows them to hunt for elk and bear in any open unit during that unit’s open season.

While Burks also received a bear tag but he chose to give it to someone else, which is an option allowed by the program.

“I did not bear hunt, but decided to donate my tag to a terminally ill sportsman who will get the chance to hunt at least one more time before he joins Fred Bear,” said Burks.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation supported the Pure Hunt Michigan program for the eighth year in a row. This year it provided winners with an annual supporting membership and a Yeti Roadie 20 Cooler.
