Elk NetworkBiologists Oversee Wildlife Populations from the Sky

Now that hunting season is over, biologists are taking to the skies of Colorado to collect population information about elk, deer and other wildlife. They do so from helicopters. The goal is to determine population counts which benefit both wildlife and wildlife management.

“They use it to plan out the number of hunting licenses that will be used in the future that will follow along with their game management plan,” Jason Clay, Colorado Parks and Wildlife public information officer, told KCNC-TV.

Colorado has the largest elk herd in North America.
