It was a dream-come-true kind of three-day weekend for several young hunters and their families in east-central Arizona. Thanks to volunteers from the White Mountain Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the outing also included field dressing, meat care and field assistance as well as breakfast, lunch, dinner, goodies, hot chocolate and a campfire.

“One imagines that these youngsters created unforgettable memories and lifelong bonds with their mentors and others in camp,” Judi Bassett wrote for the White Mountain Independent. “Seeing this group of kids with their families and friends refreshes my confidence in the world and how these ethical, compassionate, polite youngsters will help to keep our world on track.”

Half of the registered attendees filled their tags by evening of the second day.
